Study on preregistration in psychology

2023-03-21

To better understand the needs of the psychological research community, Lisa Spitzer and Stefanie Mueller conducted a large-scale online survey asking psychological researchers about their views on preregistration. The researchers reported on their motivations and obstacles regarding preregistration and made suggestions for improving the preregistration process.

The identified main obstacles to preregistration were the time effort and the lack of clarity on what needs to be included. To address these obstacles, PreReg supports the creation of preregistrations by providing preregistration templates

Moreover, the study explored what factors influence the intention to preregister and whether previous research experience has an impact on perceived motivations, obstacles, and attitudes. The study has now been published as a Registered Report in PLOS ONE and can be found here: https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0281086
